(AP) -- ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A suspect is dead after a shootout with St. Louis police.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that officers were responding to a burglary report Tuesday when a man began shooting.

Police returned fire, striking the gunman in the chest. He was declared dead at a hospital.

Other suspects fled and a police car approaching the scene flipped over. The officer in the car was hurt but is expected to recover.

The name of the man killed by police has not been released.
