(AP) -- Wednesday is the last day to register for Missourians who want to vote in the upcoming August primary.

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan says in a news release that Missourians need to be registered by Wednesday if they want to take part in the Aug. 7 primary election.

Carnahan says residents can register in person or by mail, and a mailed voter registration application has to be postmarked by the July 11 deadline in order to cast a ballot for the August primary.

In addition to other races, Missouri Republicans will be voting in the primary to select a candidate to run against incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat. The GOP candidates for that race include businessman John Brunner, former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman and Congressman Todd Akin.
