JOPLIN -- A $70 million convention center and a $68 million performing arts complex top the proposed projects Joplin leaders are discussing as part of a master plan guiding the city's recovery from the deadly May 2011 tornado.
City elected leaders are meeting Monday night with a master planner hired to guide Joplin's recovery.
The Joplin City Council meeting comes one week after the city approved a contract with Wallace-Bajjali Development Partners of Sugar Land, Texas. Company president David Wallace is sharing details of $800 million in redevelopment projects, including a $35 million senior housing complex and clusters of affordable housing. No council votes are expected.
The May 22, 2011, tornado killed 162 people and damaged or destroyed about 7,500 homes or apartments.
