The Fourth of July has come and gone, and apparently, folks around central Missouri were leaving the fireworks to the pros this year.
Fireworks retailers said that this year has been a record bad year for firework sales.
The sellers say there are three main reasons for the lackluster year: the unusually dry weather, the economy still in recovery, and the fact that Independence Day fell on a Wednesday this year, which is traditionally bad for sales.
And the ones here in mid-Missouri weren't the only ones hurting...
"I've spoken to fireworks retailers statewide, and for the most part, they're down 50, 60, and 70 percent compared to last year, which was a record year," said Glenn Kilburn of Saturn Fireworks in Holts Summit.
Even though there is a day left to sell fireworks in Missouri, many stands have already hung it up for the year.
The last day that stands can legally sell fireworks is July 10th.
