The community of Ashland continues to mourn the loss of 2 children who were electrocuted in the Lake of the Ozarks on the 4th of July.
A current of electricity killed Alexandra Anderson, 13, and her brother Brayden, 8, while they were swimming by their private dock near Barnett in Morgan County.
Alexandra Anderson would have been a high school freshman this fall. Her brother Brayden would have been an Ashland third grader.
School Superintendent Charlotte Miller said, “It’s just tough. Our hearts and prayers definitely go out to our families. We can just be there for kids. They were precious children. We just want to work and help the students here at Southern Boone and their families. We have a great community and a community that really supports families and circles around them in times like this.”
Family and friends designed cards, read materials on how to deal with grief and wrote messages on a giant greeting card to show their love for Alexandra and Brayden. Counselors from Southern Boone Schools and the Columbia School District were not just helping students at the counseling session. They were helping parents help their children get through these tough times.
Miller said, “This is something that just aches. You ache for them. I know their heart’s broken.”
Miller said the school district’s counseling session was the first step in a long process of dealing with this tragedy.
