The Fourth of July is inching ever nearer, and you can bet that you'll see some fireworks fly off the shelves in the next couple of days.
Many places in the counties are still letting folks use them, but authorities urge caution.
Glenn Kilburn runs Saturn Fireworks off West Edgewood in Jefferson City, and says that he usually sees the bulk of his sales on the couple days before the 4th.
And while he says that most fireworks are safe coupled with common sense, bottle rockets could cause problems because of their erratic shooting patterns, which is why he does not recommend buying them.
"They really have no aesthetic value as far as entertaining the family, color, whatever. So I would say, don't purchase bottle rockets, don't allow your children to purchase them, don't shoot bottle rockets. They cause 95% of the fireworks problems," said Kilburn.
In addition, he says keeping a bucket of water or hose handy to douse the used fireworks with is a great idea.
Jefferson City is allowing the use of smaller fireworks this year, but they still ask you to keep children away from any type of firework.
