If you've been getting calls on your cell, with telemarketers trying to sell you on a timeshare or credit card, you're not alone.
"You know, you don't know if it's necessarily true or not, and unfortunately some people fall for it," said Erika Leonord, who has gotten both calls and texts on her cell phone from telemarketers.
The Missouri Attorney General says that things on that front are changing.
"Everyplace I go, people asked, 'when can we get this same protection for our cell phones that we have for our land lines?,'” said Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster. “The answer is that protection finally comes today"
Today, Governor Nixon signed House Bill 1549, which puts into effect a no-call list for mobile phones.
"You go to ago.mo.gov, the Attorney General's website. Put in your name and address, and then, the cell phone numbers of those phones you want protected," said Koster.
For telemarketers that ignore the no call list, they'll be getting a call of their own, which will involve no hard sell.
"We want Missourians to be our eyes and ears. Take down the number of the operation that called, then send it to the Attorney General's office, call us at the Attorney General's office, and we've got a team in our enforcement unit that will go after these folks, and penalize them financially," said Koster.
