MONITEAU COUNTY -- We now know the turkey truck involved in yesterday's crash was carrying 864 turkeys, the Highway Patrol says about half to two thirds of them died.

The patrol also said they are still investigating why Cunningham drifted into oncoming traffic. There weren't any skid marks to indicate he tried to correct his driving before the accident.

The Highway Patrol reconstruction team should have results from their investigation in a few weeks.

UPDATE: 5-29-12; 4:15

A 21-year-old Warrensberg man was killed Monday night after a car crash in Moniteau County.

It happened at 6 p.m. on Highway 50, 1 mile west of Missouri 87.

The highway patrol said 21-year-old Mason Cunningham was driving westbound in his pickup truck when he crossed the center line and hit a turkey hauling rig.

Witnesses said the semi burst into flames after the crash, just moments after the driver was able to escape.

The crash closed the road for several hours.

Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi truck driver, 52-year-old Anthony Seymore had minor injuries.
