Couple injured in Cole County crash

A Jefferson City couple were hospitalized Sunday night after a one-vehicle crash in Cole County.

It happened just after 8 p.m. on Highway 179, just north of Wedgeon Wood Way.

The Highway Patrol said the driver, 78-year-old Lewis Bounds had a medical issue while he was driving.

His car went off of the left side of the roadway and struck several trees.

Bounds was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries, while his wife, 74-year-old Treva Bounds was life-flighted to University in Columbia.

Her condition was upgraded to fair condition Monday morning.

Sunday night, crews responed to a serious accident at 179 and Route Z in Cole County.

The one car accident happened about 8:30.

We know a staff for life helicopter was brought in to transport one of the two victims.

Authorities say the driver had a medical problem before the crash.
