Construction worker crushed by concrete pipe

A Columbia construction worker is in the hosptial with potentially life-threatening injuries after an afternoon accident.

Columbia firefighters responded to a private work site off Cinnamon Hill Road, near Highway 63, in Columbia at about 2:30 p.m.

A First Student bus driver called 911 after he saw a man laying on the ground near a backhoe.

Responders say the man was working on a water main extension project when a concrete pipe with a 24-inch diameter rolled over his body.

No word on his condition now.
