Lake-area residents and community leaders broke ground Friday morning for the new Hurriance Deck bridge.

The new bridge on Route 5 in Camden County is a $32 million project. It will be built on the east side of the existing structure, south of Sunrise Beach.

The new bridge will be wider to include two 12-foot driving lanes with seven-foot shoulders on each side.

The existing bridge will remain open to traffic during construction, but some occasional lane closures are expected. The bridge is expected to be finished late next year.
