Boone County authorities say their annual Drug Take Back event was a huge success this past weekend.

Boone County deputies at 8 different collection sites collected more than 500 pounds of prescription drugs during the 2-day event.

Boone County residents took back more 180,000 pills that were expired or no longer needed.

That number tops the last event held in November of 2011 by 4 pounds.

Members of the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency took possession of the medications for proper disposal.
