Officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving a hand gun at the Walmart on Grindstone Parkway early Thursday morning. Loss Prevention was escorting a subject off the property when he pulled a handgun from his waist area and pointed it at the staff.

The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle. Officers tried to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful. The investigation revealed the suspect stole the pellet pistol from Walmart prior to being escorted out of the building for suspicion of stealing from the business the day before.

Just past 11:00 A.M., officers were dispatched to a burglary at 2808 Wild Plum. The suspect removed two chainsaws, drill, leaf blower and tackle box from the victim’s garage. The suspect was seen with a handgun in his waistband and fit the description of the previous suspect from Walmart.

Officers flooded the area and located him in the woods near the 2100 block of Bluff Point. He was uncooperative and resisted arrest.

He was taken into custody and positively identified by the victims from Walmart and the burglary. The pellet pistol resembled a real firearm and was recovered at the scene of the arrest.

The suspect, 48-year-old Brian D. Murphy, was arrested and charged with Armed Criminal Action, Property Damage, stealing, third degree assault, burglary, possession of controlled substance and resisting or interfering with an arrest.
