The University of Missouri School of Medicine is winning praise for a program that uses a so-called mind-body approach to help people deal with stress and make healthier eating decisions.
Called "Taking Care of You: Body-Mind-Spirit," the program was recognized recently at the Priester Extension Health Conference in Washington.
One of the activities involves encouraging people to focus on aromas, taste and texture of food while they eat.
Researchers say people are satisfied with smaller portions if they slow down and savor their food.
The program has been offered at worksites, churches and community centers statewide since 2011. Group sizes for the program range from 10 to 25 participants.
