A Jefferson City band teacher accused of sexual contact with a student resigned from his position as a teacher Wednesday morning.

In October of 2011, Chris Knehans was charged with two counts of sexual contact with a student by a teacher.

Knehans appeared in Cole County Court Wednesday morning for a motion hearing. A judge set his jury trial for June 14, 2012.

David Luther, Jefferson City Public Schools Spokesman, told KRCG the Board of Education accepted Knehans’ resignation subject to his permanent surrender of his Missouri Teaching License to the state.

Luther said the school district was not able to comment further on the issue.

Knehans has been on administrative leave since fall of 2011.
