Several parents of Blair Oaks Elementary students came out in droves in support of a woman, they say, was the bedrock of their children's education.

"This is a small community, and we got 500 supporters of a facebook page, we got over 400 signatures for an onliune petition, that should say something to the board,” said Dawn Brooks, the parent of a Blair Oaks elementary student.

But tonight's meeting, despite what was written on the agenda, did not have anything to do with Winslow or her firing.

“We assumed it might have something to do with her. Tonight, we were told it had something to do with surtax litigation. Again this just us not knowing what's going on in our district,” said Brooks.

Blair Oaks School board officials told everyone at the beginning of the meeting that the only thing on their agenda was to talk about the surtax, and then left to discuss that behind closed doors.

“Really, there was no personnel discussion tonight,” said Dr. Jim Jones, Blair Oaks Superintendent.
Blair Oaks parents in attendance said they feel like they are left out in the dark in a lot of ways with the school board, and Winslow is only the tip of the iceberg.

“I feel that this situation is literally ripping us apart. And when I say 'us', I include the school board members in that, because there are a part of the Blair Oaks family. They've stood up, they ran for office, and we elected them to represent us. I appreciate all the work that they do for us, just really want them to reconsider the voter's feelings,” said Tammy Spicer, another Blair Oaks parent.

“We have excellent grades here, excellent graduation rates – we're happy. But we need to be informed,” said Brooks.
They said that re-hiring Winslow, would be the first step in a long-term process to simply knowing what's going on in their school district.
