COLUMBIA -- More than a thousand people were in Columbia for the city's biggest Chili-fest Saturday.

51 teams competed in the 7th annual MFA Oil Rootin'-Tootin' Chili Cookoff at the Holiday INN Expo Center.

Each team was required to prepare everything onsite the day of the event, were required to prepare a minimum of six gallons of their chili recipe.

The tasty event benefits the boys & girls club of Columbia.

"They say it takes a village to raise and child and this is the village,” executive director of the Boys and Girls Club Valorie Livingston said.  “This is the community pulling together to support an organization that serves at risk youth of our community and that's what makes our community so great to live in.”

In 2011 this event raised $65,000 and saw a crowd of 1500 people.

The event also had live music and entertainment by teams as they also competed for showmanship and booth decoration awards.
