COLUMBIA -- More than a thousand firefighters from Missouri and eight other states are in Columbia this weekend.
They're in town for the winter fire school sponsored by the University of Missouri.
More than 100 classes are being offered ranging from, trauma techniques, to disaster searches and firefighter survival.
“The classes that we provide, they get to take back and take the knowledge that they learned from this event and actually apply it to their job back home,” Special Programs Director for MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute, Tracy Gray said.
Friday there were more than 100 venders on hand to show off the latest in rescue technology including new fire trucks and other emergency equipment.
Sunday firefighters from Joplin will be talking about their experiences following last May’s deadly tornado.
