Teen with crtical injuries after car accident

A Jefferson City teenager was taken to University Hospital with critical injuries a Friday evening accident.
Police said Evantie Essex, 18, of Jefferson City was the passenger in a vehicle traveling in the 1000 block of South Country Club when the car went off the roadway just north of Old Lohman Road. The car traveled down an embankment, through a creek and came to a rest. Essex was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Essex was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries but was transferred to University Hospital in critical condition, according to a police accident report.
Police said the drive of the vehicle is unknown at this time. Jefferson City Police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
