Update: Thursday, Feb. 2 at 2:50 p.m.:

A former Jefferson City school bus driver will spend 20 years behind bars because of a sex crime involving a minor.

Thursday morning a Cole County judge handed down William Vaught’s sentence. In December, a jury found him guilty of first degree statutory sodomy.

Vaught appeared in court for the sentencing, but that’s not all that happened Thursday morning. Officials filed for a new trial and argued why it was needed. However, the judge denied the request.

Vaught worked for the Jefferson City School District from 2000-004 and from September 2007 through 2010. The incident, which involved a child younger than 12 years old, happened sometime between May 1, 2008 and November 30, 2008. Court documents did not reveal how Vaught knew the child or whether he or she was a student.

KRCG was the first to break this story in 2010.  You can see more background on the case here.
