About 20 % of Missourians aren't taking advantage of a tax credit that could save them thousands of dollars.

It's a federal credit called the "Earned Income Tax Credit" or EITC.

Last year in Cole County, nearly 6,000 individuals and families received more than $12 million dollars in this tax credit.

That came out to an average of $2,100 per tax return.

But about one in five tax payers who qualify don't take advantage of the credit.

Many households that earn $49,000 or less per year could qualify.
