A former Jefferson City Police officer heads to court Friday for arraignment.

Rachel Barnard was not on duty as a Jefferson City police officer when she was arrested and charged with a DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, and careless and imprudent driving.

Cole County deputies believe in October, Barnard backed into a vehicle in front of her house on Tanner Bridge Road then drove off and ditched her vehicle.

Deputies found Barnard in her house with her keys.

She refused to perform a field sobriety test, but agreed to do a breathalyzer.

The sample showed her blood alcohol content was 0.20 percent, two and a half times higher than the legal limit.

Barnard is no longer employed by the Jefferson City Police Department.
