SPRINGFIELD, MO (AP) -- A request for Springfield women to donate their old prom and party dresses brought in 75 dresses in one day to help struggling students at Kickapoo High School.

Organizers say they're hoping for more than 200 dresses by the time the drive ends in February. The dresses will be cleaned and mended, if necessary, then sold for $10 to $30 apiece.

The money will go toward the school's Helping Us Graduation, or HUG, Fund, which helps needy students participate in important school experiences.

The Springfield News-Leader reports a local business has set up drop-off points where people can leave their donated dresses through Feb. 21.

Organizers say most of the money from the HUG Fund has paid for graduation caps and gowns, prom pictures and other "fun stuff."
