JEFFERSON CITY -- Over the years Jefferson City residents have heard "the Capital City is a great place to raise a family...not A place to spend your young professional life."
But the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce is trying to change that.
One of the chamber's newest initiative is “START,” an intern initiative.
It's meant to connect students seeking internships to employers offering them while at the same time connecting those students interning to the community.
Organizers want interns to see Jefferson City as a place that welcomes young professionals.
"During the summer, during the legislative cycle, we have a lot of really talented young individuals here in our town and it's important that we capitalize on that opportunity and make sure that those young talented individuals decide to take opportunities here in our town, and decide to start their career here, make Jefferson City their home, and build up our community as they build up their own careers," Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce START member Stephanie Bell said.
