A Jefferson City man is in jail after leading authorities on a high speed chase through Jefferson City and into Holts Summit.

The chase began Sunday around 5 p.m. Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call at WalMart on Stadium Drive. The call said the vehicle may have been involved in drugs. Officers spotted the car as it left the lot. Police called in the license plate number and found the driver to have a warrant for arrest.

Police said they tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver would not pull over and they began a pursuit. It started on Stadium and went onto Highway 54 Westbound toward Holts Summit.

Police said the 33-year-old Jefferson City man exited at the first Holts Summit exit, continued the pursuit onto Hayes Street and then left the vehicle on foot. Police searched the area and officers were able to find the man.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of possession with intent to distribute (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

No one was hurt in the chase.
