Charges against one of two men charged in a fatal shooting in Jefferson City have been dismissed.

Rafael Fuentes, 23, of California, Mo., was charged with second-degree murder after the Dec. 18 shooting death of Francisco Navarro in Apache Flats.

Prosecutor Mark Richardson said Thursday the charges against Fuentes were dropped because evidence in the case showed that a single shooter acted alone in the death.

The Cole County Sheriff's Office said Navarro was the passenger in a truck when a fight broke out over a loud muffler. Navarro reportedly got out of the truck to stop the fight. That's when authorities said Jose Hurtado, 22, of California, Mo., pulled out a gun and shot Navarro. Hurtado is also charged with second-degree murder.
