Jefferson City's 5th Ward Councilman Dave Griffith announced yesterday that he will resign his post.
Griffith recently accepted a job with the Red Cross, and the Red Cross rules forbid elected officials from holding executive positions.
Jefferson City's interim attorney says the city council will have to get together to choose someone to temporarily fill his seat.
"That process takes about a month. So essentially that person wouldn't start before March, and April is a new term. So two or three meetings is all they would fill, so they will just have to make a decision if it's the right thing to do,” Jefferson City's Interim Attorney Drew Hilpert said.
Hilpert said the council could also go without the 5th ward seat until after the election in April.
Hilpert told us Griffith will attend the council meeting on January 3rd.
