A Mid-Missouri man whose conviction for killing his mother was overturned is struggling to adjust to freedom.

In August, Dale Helmig sat down with KRCG and said he just wanted his old life back. He was convicted in 1996 for killing his mother and was sentenced to life in prison without the chance for parole.

In December 2010, an appeals judge overturned his conviction and ordered his release. In August, Osage County Prosecutor Amanda Grellner said she would not refile murder charges against Helmig unless someone discovered credible new evidence.

Now, according to a Kansas City Star report, Helmig is struggling to find a job.

Helmig told the paper he has tried hard to find a new job, but has had no success. He is currently living with his brother in Rocky Mount, near the Lake of the Ozarks.
