You've probably heard of secret Santas around the country paying off peoples layaway bills at stores like K-Mart and Sears.
Monday, the Sears store in the Columbia Mall was buzzing with holiday shoppers and right here in the heart of Missouri we too have an act of kindness to tell you about.
It happened Sunday at Sears.
Lisa Jansen, Sears Store Manager explained how it happened, "I came along and all the sudden he said I want to pay off somebodies layaway , I've heard about this thing happening, and I want to do this. This is my way to give a Christmas present to everybody else because I have everything I want..ok, sure...so we stepped off the floor and he was mainly concerned with paying off families layaways like toys".
Jansen says after hearing the similar stories around the nation she knew it would only be a matter of time before someone here in Missouri did the same and she was thrilled the man picked her store to make the holidays a little better for someone else, "This is the heart of Mid Missouri and this is COMO and this is why people love us, and this is why people live here. This is just the spirit that everybody has and it's the spirit of giving and it really is better to give than receive. This guy was just radiating and before I left can I hug you because it was just the best thing in the world".
The man payed off six accounts, totaling more than $200 for people he'll never meet.
