COLE COUNTY -- A Morgan County man is behind bars after a shooting at a Rocky Mount home.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office said a domestic dispute broke out early Saturday morning between a man and a woman who was visiting Jamie Rae Wixson's home. A bystander who stepped in to help the woman was struck several times by David Stanley.

According to law enforcement, Wixson then asked Stanley to leave the home. When Stanley refused, deputies say Wixson shot him several times in the lower abdomen and thigh.

Stanley fled the home with the unnamed female. His vehicle was later spotted in Cole County, where deputies stopped him.

Wixson is in custody in Morgan County on a $100,000 bond on suspicion of second degree assault and armed criminal action.
