A handful of West Elementary School students were late getting home on Monday after the empty school bus headed to pick them up was involved in an accident.

JCPS spokesman David Luther said the empty bus was near the intersection of Boonville and West Main when a car struck it. No students were inside the bus, but the school had to call the bus barn to get another bus dispatched to the school.

Luther said about 25 students were 25 minutes late getting home as a result of the accident.
