COLUMBIA, MO. -- Nick Foster became the Executive Director of the Voluntary Action Center on October 4.  Foster replaced Cindy Mustard after she held the job for 20 years.  Foster is counting on his staff to help him continue Mustard’s excellent record.  The organization provides services and resources to low-income families and individuals.

Foster said, “I think one of the challenges that we have is to help people remain aware that VAC is still the same agency it was.  VAC is still doing good work.  We still need the support of the community to do that.”

Before coming to Columbia, foster and his wife Candace lived in Bloomington, Indiana where he was the Executive Director of his county’s Habitat for Humanity.

Foster said, “I guess, largely, my experience with them adds to the experience I’ve had previously of working with low-income families and non-profits.  Working with a board of directors is very involved and that kind of thing.”

Foster is counting on a lot of help from the community as he continues his fight against poverty in Boone County.
