COLUMBIA, MO (AP) -- A Columbia bar owner could face millions of dollars in fines for violating clean water laws.

The Associated Press Reported the Missouri Attorney General's Office and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources filed a lawsuit Oct. 31 against Frank Davis, owner of The Upper Deck. The lawsuit contends the bar operated a septic tank without registration and failed to file necessary reports.

Davis faces fines of $10,000 per day for each violation. Some of the violations date as far back as 2004. Davis declined comment.

The attorney general's office said the state likely would work with Davis to reduce his fine. And a member of the state's Clean Water Commission said the fines likely would be forgiven, if Davis brings his septic tank into compliance.
