COLUMBIA, MO. -- Update:  Monday Nov. 7  10:10pm

Council members have approved a plan to require owners of mobile home parks to give residents 180 days notice of eviction. That's 60 days longer than the previous 120 day rule.  The new ordinance does not apply to residents of the Regency Mobile Home Park and the El Ray Mobile Home Park. Those homeowners are required to move by March 1.

Original Story:

Columbia City Council Members are scheduled to discuss eviction notice requirements during their meeting on Monday night.

The issue stems from a controversial plan to replace Columbia’s Regency Mobile Home Park with a student housing apartment complex.

City leaders could vote to extend eviction notice requirements from 120 days to 180 days notice.

Right now, Regency residents have until March 1 to move out of their trailer park.

The extra 60 days would give Regency residents a chance to move out in the spring instead of during harsh winter conditions.

Council members are expected to vote on a rezoning request to approve the student housing apartment complex during their meeting in 2 weeks.
