Update Thursday, November 3 at 9:20 a.m.:

Columbia Police said a 13-year-old has a broken arm after she was hit by a car.

Police said a father dropped off his 13-year-old daughter on the south side of the intersection on McBaine and Ash Street.

A school bus, with its arm out to warn traffic, was stopped on the north side of the intersection. The girl saw a car traveling westbound on Ash, but she said she thought it was further away than it was. The girl ran northbound into traffic crossing the intersection to the school bus.

The vehicle traveling westbound on Ash Street did not see the girl running into traffic.  The vehicle hit the girl.

Police said there is a stop sign for north and south traffic at that intersection, but not for east and west traffic. The driver was not given a ticket.

The twelve year old girl received medical attention for a broken arm.

A Columbia teen is in the hospital after she was hit by a car.

Columbia school officials say a 13-year-old Smithton Middle School student was dropped off at the bus stop around 7:00 a.m. Thursday.

Michelle Baumstark, the Columbia Schools Spokesperson, said when the student exited the car, she ran across the street and was hit by a car.

Her bus driver witnessed the incident.  The girl was taken to the hospital.

We'll have more details as they become available.
