JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- One Jefferson City school is $50,000 richer thanks to an outpouring of support from the mid-Missouri community.
Immaculate Conception found out it was one of 18 schools to win money from U.S. Cellular’s “Calling All Communities” campaign. The school with the most votes won $150,000. Right now it’s not clear who won the money.
Vice Principal Heather Schrimpf said they’re very excited about the win and they plan on using the money toward technology.
“We’re in dire need of some updating,” Schrimpf said.
She said corporate officials from U.S. Cellular will be in town soon to present the winnings, but they’re still deciding on a date.
The school plans to have an assembly to welcome the big check.
Four other mid-Missouri schools were in the running for the money. Blair Oaks Elementary did not win. Concord Christian and Gratz Brown Elementary hadn’t heard anything yet from U.S. Cellular. There is no word either way from Westran Elementary at this time.
Last Year, St. Francis Xavier in Taos won $100,000. School officials bought a new gym floor and an air system with their winnings.
