A Columbia teen is in jail after Boone County Deputies said he broke into a home with a hangun.

Sheriff’s Deputies said just after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to reports of a robbery in the New Haven Meadow subdivision.

Deputies said a resident in the 1200 block of South Roseta Avenue reported a man broke in the home. The victim said the introducer demanded money. The victim refused to hand over money, and a struggle ensued. The victim was able to get the gun away from the suspect, and the suspect ran out of the house and drove away.

Deputies identified the suspect as 17-year-old Ladame Telshawn Smith of Columbia. Deputies found him at his house and arrested him on suspicion of robbery and armed criminal action.

Smith is in the Boone County Jail on a cash-only $50,000 bond.
