LINN, MO. -- The City of Linn in Osage County is turning 100 years old.
City leaders are inviting everyone to their Linn centennial event this weekend.
Organizers said the Show-Me Linn Now and Then Centennial Celebration is easy on the family’s budget. All of the activities are free. You only need money for food and souvenirs. It took 2 years to plan a long schedule of events including a 2-mile parade through town, open houses throughout the city and live music.
Event Committee Chair Glenda Whitney said, “We want people to come into our town. We’re going to showcase Linn this weekend. We want people to see what we have to offer.”
Mayor Dwight Massey and his wife have lived in the oldest continuous home in Linn for the past 15 years. It was built in 1877. It’s available for tours during the centennial event.
Massey said, “Come in. Have a cup of coffee. Grab a sugar cookie and sit down and visit for a minute, if you’ve got time.”
There are all kinds of contests going on at the Linn centennial event. The one, that’s getting the most attention, is as plain as the beard on your face.
Terry Wolfe has been growing his beard since January for the centennial’s beard contest. No one recognizes him anymore behind all of his fuzz.
Wolfe said, “If my wife stays hid, they don’t recognize me. Once she walks up they know who I am, or my dog.”
The event kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. in Linn City Park. The centennial event finishes Saturday night with a rock concert on the main stage behind city hall.
