COLUMBIA, MO. -- Boone County Presiding Commissioner Ed Robb passed away Saturday at University Hospital.
Robb, 69, was elected Boone County Presiding Commissioner in November.
Just days before he was supposed to be sworn into office in January, Robb passed out at his home and was taken to the hospital.
Doctors diagnosed Robb with an abnormal heart rhythm and installed a pacemaker.
The Columbia Tribune reported Robb died after attending a dinner celebrating his son's birthday Saturday night.
He previously represented Boone County in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2009.
He was a retired economics professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He received his undergraduate degree from Bradley University and his masters and doctoral degrees in economics from Michigan State University.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa, of Columbia, and their five children.
A statement made on behalf of the family said the Robb family is grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love, prayers and support.
The family asks for continued prayers and for privacy at this time.
