(AP) -- The American Civil Liberties Union is suing to stop a Missouri college from drug testing its students.
The suit by the ACLU of Eastern Missouri was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Jefferson City. Attorney Tony Rothert says the suit asks the court to end the drug testing at Linn State Technical College in central Missouri and to return $50 to the accounts of students, money the two-year school charges for the testing program.
A spokeswoman for Linn State says the college had not seen the suit, and declined comment.
Linn State instituted the widespread testing program this school year, saying it is necessary to ensure student safety at a campus where the coursework includes aircraft maintenance, heavy engine repair and other dangerous tasks.
