Car seat safety is a real concern. New standards are out from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
With some details on how you can keep your toddler safe.
New tips for keeping your child safe include using rear-facing car seats until age two or until your child outgrows it.
The new standards also say kids should use a forward facing, “belt-positioning” device until they are either 4 feet 9 inches tall or between 8 and 12 years old.
At the Fulton Fire Department they actually have three car seat technicians on staff. Through a state grant they'l l give you a child seat if you can't afford one.
Fire officials said a big mistake people make when using car seats is hanging toys from the seats. They said people also buy car seats at yard sales when they've expired. A car seat is only good for six years.
