The Missouri Senate has endorsed legislation that revises a controversial new state law that limits teacher- student communication over the internet.

The bill, given initial approval Monday, would repeal a law banning teachers from using websites, like Facebook and Twitter, that give "exclusive access" to students.

Governor Nixon has been openly supportive of the repeal. It was Nixon that made sure the issue was part of the special special that began last week.

The provision already had been temporarily blocked by a judge on August 26 because of free-speech concerns. The Missouri Legislature has 180 days from that date to pass the repeal or the law will once again go into effect.

This senate bill also requires school districts to come up with policies on employee-student communications by March 1st.

The bill needs a second vote before it can go to the House.
