Update: Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m.:
A Boone County judge sentenced Daron Peal to 45 years in prison for second degree murder and armed criminal action.
Peal pleaded guilty in the shooting death of Aaron Hobson last October in a Columbia Break Time parking lot on East Nifong.
Aaron Hobson was in Columbia for Mizzou’s homecoming weekend last fall to watch his cousin play football for the Tigers. He never made it home.
Daron Peal showed no remorse as a judge sentenced him to prison. Prosecutors say Peal was the trigger man in the murder. Family members of Aaron Hobson say justice was served.
Aaron’s grandfather Al Hobson said, “He’s just cold blooded. He’s absolutely cold blooded. If he’s out on the streets while he’s still young, he’s going to do it again.”
Prosecutors expect Peal to serve 31 years of his 45 year sentence before he gets a chance at parole.
Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight said, “This plea that he made was voluntarily and intelligently made. He wasn’t coerced or threatened into making this plea. He was sentenced appropriately. I think he’s going to be spending a real long time in the penitentiary now.”
7 others defendants including Daron Peal’s brother Darris face charges in the death of Aaron Hobson.
Hobson’s family members plan to return to the courthouse next Monday for the sentencing of Patrick Marshall. Marshall has already pleaded guilty and prosecutors are recommending a 20 year sentence for his involvement.
On September 27, prosecutors begin jury selection in the Darris Peal trial.
