COLUMBIA, MO. -- Update: Sept. 13 at 2:58 p.m.

A clerical error led to the report on the recent fire on Windsor being titled an arson. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire and have not made any determinations on how it began.

Update: Sept. 13 at 2:58 p.m.

Police are calling the fire on Windsor Ave. arson. The case is still under investigation.

Original Story:

Columbia firefighters said they won't be able to find out what caused a house fire in the 1400 block of Windsor.

Crews were called to the scene close to 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

When they arrived the home was fully engulfed---the fire took about an hour to get under control.

Luckily nobody was home, and the structure was vacant---it was actually about to demolished.

"It was just fully engulfed and flames were shooting up into the trees and catching them on fire too,” neighbor Keaton Smith said. “Everyone was afraid their house was going to catch on fire."

Fire crews were on the scene for more than 12 hours just making sure the fire didn't reignite.

No other homes were damaged in the blaze.
