Officials fight fire at Ellis Library

Columbia Police arrested Christopher Kelley, 25, after he was seen in surveillance video taken from Ellis Library. He is charged with:

  • 1 Count Burglary 2nd degree
  • 1 Count Arson 2nd degree
  • 2 Counts Tampering 2nd degree
  • 7 Counts Property Damage 2nd degree

Kelley turned himself into authorities just before noon Saturday.

Columbia Firefighters spent part of the overnight hours fighting a blaze at Ellis Library on the University of Missouri campus.

Authorities were called to the library just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Crews found moderate smoke on the first and second floors. Crews found a fire on the second floor which was controlled partially by the automatic fire sprinklers.

Firefighters used extinguishers to finish putting the fire out.

There were no injuries at the fire, but authorities are looking for a man found on suveillance video of the library.
