KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) -- The seizure of more than 150 cats from a Kansas City home has animal control personnel scrambling to house them.

Officials are hoping to make room at the city shelter by adopting out cats already being held there. As an incentive, the city is reducing cat adoption fees for one week, beginning with a special adoption event Saturday at the shelter at 4400 Raytown Road.

A $45 fee will cover adoption of two cats and includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations, a one-year license and a feline leukemia test. The fee is normally $65 per cat.

None of the 153 cats taken Monday from a home is being offered for adoption yet. Officials say many were in poor health and need treatment.

The woman who kept the cats was cited for animal cruelty.
