COLUMBIA, MO. -- Mizzou Football Coach Gary Pinkel is leading an effort to build a year-round training facility in Columbia for Special Olympics Missouri.

Pinkel unveiled plans for the Training for Life Campus while surrounded by Special Olympic athletes from across the state.

St. Louis businessman Michael Neidorff donated $1 million toward the $7.5 million project.

The training facility would be the first of its kind in the United States.

Pinkel said, “I think we can get it done because its for a great cause.  It’s the right thing.  We have a lot of caring people that understand that through this entire state.  It’s our mission to get this thing done.”

Once funded is secured, the 44,000-square-foot center will be set on 11 acres of property off Highway 63 just south of Columbia.

Construction on the campus is expected to be underway within the next 2 years.
