Columbia schools dismissing early because of the heat

COLUMBIA, MO -- Update: Wednesday, August 31st at 10:55 a.m.:

Columbia school officials have made plans for Thursday's heat. Once again, some schools will dismiss early Thursday due to heat

Thursday, September 1:

Dismissal at 11:30 a.m.
Jefferson Junior High School
West Junior High School

Dismissal at 12:30 p.m.
Lee Elementary School
Midway Heights Elementary School
New Haven Elementary School
Ridgeway Elementary School
Two Mile Prairie Elementary School

Additionally, the Early Childhood Centers on Waco Road and Rainforest Parkway will dismiss at 11:30 a.m., including extended day. No afternoon sessions will be held at those locations.

All other schools will dismiss at their usual times. Students will be served lunch prior to dismissal.

Wednesday will be another early day for hundreds of Columbia students. Because of forecasted temperatures in the upper 90’s, the school district says it will dismiss early all schools without air conditioning.

Here’s the breakdown on which schools are dismissing and when…

11:30 a.m.:

Jefferson Junior High
West Junior High
Early Childhood Center on Waco
Early Childhood Center on Rain Forest Parkway
*There will be no afternoon sessions at the above listed early childhood centers.

12:30 p.m.:

Lee Elementary
Midway Elementary
New Haven Elementary
Ridgeway Elementary
Two Mile Prairie Elementary

All other schools will have normal hours.
