Ramussen Reports conducted a telephone survey in August to see if Americans think public schools provide a world class education.

60-percent of Americans who took the survey said that U.S. public schools don't provide that level of education and 26-percent said public schools do.

KRCG's Facebook Crew talked with local schools Monday to find out what they thought of the report.

Most of the parents I talked with Monday told me they think Missouri public schools give all kids a chance for a great education, but it all depends on the teacher and the student.

"Overall I think teachers are teaching students enough information. It's just a matter if the students want to learn and if the teachers are enthused in teaching them,” St. Louis Resident Chester Nelson said.

The public education survey said 62-percent of Americans think United States public schools do not teach world class education.

But both Fulton and New Bloomfield superintendents disagree.

"In the United States we educate everyone in public education. We're challenged to educate the whole spectrum of students, from special needs to college bound; and I would argue we do a very good job at doing that,” New Bloomfield Superintendent David Tramel said.

"Here in central Missouri we have great kids. We do very well in our schools. Our kids are going to top flight institutions on both the east and west coasts,” Fulton Public Schools Superintendent Jacque Cowherd said. “Also our test scores are pretty good."

Cowherd told me the difference between the United States public schools and other worldly schools is that we teach every kid no matter what their needs are.

"Some worldly schools have systems that track kids off to other programs; and some only allow the best and brightest to get a shot at an higher education,” Cowherd said. “Where all our kids here get that shot. We're working very hard to get all those children lined up to do that."

The Jefferson City Public Schools told me they also do their best of offering all types of education to meet the needs for all students.
