BOONE COUNTY, MO. -- Tuesday’s earthquakes in Virginia and Colorado have emergency officials in Mid-Missouri on high alert.
Boone County Emergency Officials want to remind everyone to prepare for an earthquake shaking the Midwest.
Scientists have been waiting for a huge tremor along the New Madrid Fault Zone in Southeast Missouri for several decades.
Boone County Public Safety Director Zim Schwartze said, “If the New Madrid Fault Zone does go, whether it be a 5.5, a 6.0 and all the way up to a 7 or an 8, we’re going to feel it here. We probably will not have a lot of damage or a lot of injuries because of the distance from the epicenter.”
Emergency agencies from across Mid-Missouri held an earthquake drill this past May because of the increasing chances of an earthquake in our area.
